AMNESTY BOSS EMPHASISES NEED FOR WELL-DIVERSIFIED EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM …AS DELEGATES AT IVM PASS VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON HIM
Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and
Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh
(Rtd) has stressed the urgent need for a well‐diversified educational system in
order to gain sustainable development through professional‐based and
job‐oriented technical, technological and vocational training programmes for
the youths in the country.
According to him, socio-economic development can best be
achieved through sincere and focused investments in human capital with a view
to raising the productivity capacities of the citizenry, adding that the
purpose of education is to provide adequate knowledge to the local community to
cope with the professions, and that education will also provide social value,
so that people can achieve development.
Represented by his senior integration officer, Mr. Jude
Gbaboyor, during a sensitization visit to 200 Presidential delegates undergoing
training in automobile engineering at Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company
Limited, Nnewi (IVM), Anambra state, on Monday, the Amnesty boss maintained
that return on investment on the Amnesty trainees in technical/vocational skills
will increases their lifetime earning capacity with better career path which
comes with increased earning and a better quality of life to enable them
properly reintegrate into the society.
Gen. reiterated that the Presidential Amnesty Programme under
his regime is focused creating an environment where the beneficiaries can
develop their full potential and lead productive and creative lives in
accordance with their needs and interests, pointing that development is about
expanding the choices people have to lead lives that they value.
In his remarks, the Production Manager of Innoson
Manufacturing Company Limited, Engineer Uyanwa Everistus, described the company
as the number one vehicle manufacturing firm in Africa said various types of
vehicles are manufactured at the plant, ranging from cars, all kind of buses,
road construction vehicles, pick up vehicles, SUVs, Vans and long bigger buses
such as 23, 33, 30, 43 and 85 capacity seater buses, including refuse disposal
vehicles.
He noted that the Presidential Amnesty Programme, headed by
Gen. Boroh is laudable indeed, adding that the delegates were responding to the
training with excitement, involved in all aspects of the production process,
ranging from manufacturing, auto mechanical, auto electrical, painting, welding
among others.
Earlier, the Project coordinator and representative of the
Vendor, Mr Isikan Ekaette, explained
that the rationale for the training was to ensure that beneficiaries of the
Presidential Amnesty Programme are equipped with sellable skills and employable
skills; skills that get them employed to enable them earn a living and be
properly reintegrated into the society.
He said the training emphasis technical skills in automobile
manufacturing and maintenance, such as auto electrical, auto mechanical and
auto body work, which comprise painting and welding, informing that the
delegate were already preparing for the National Technical Certificate (NTC)
examinations from the National Business and Technical Examinations Board.
“The idea been that
every one that participates in this training should be able to have mastery of
a particular area and then everybody now works compositely towards the end
product.
So far the trainees have been exceptional because within a
short period they have been able to display capacity in assimilating the theory
and practical aspects of the training and this is really good for Nigeria
because at the end of the day, we will be talking about people who are armed
with critical technical skills which this country needs, not just for the
development of the Niger Delta area, but for Nigeria in general.
He said they had 120 delegates in the first batch of the
training and at the end of that their training the delegates were able to
produce a luxury bus which they built from scratch to finish which they

While commending Gen. Boroh for his efforts towards
establishing automobile manufacturing hubs in the Niger Delta region, said the
Amnesty office under Gen. Boroh has introduced an innovative approach to
training of youths to fill the gap in critical skills among the youths in the
Niger Delta, pointing out that the problem of unemployment has been exacerbated
by the absence of critical skills.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, President of the
trainees, Mr. Ajalaja Felix Raphael from Warri North in Delta State, said the
delegates were satisfied with the leadership of Gen. Boroh in the way and
manner his is handling the programme, saying that they were grateful to the
Amnesty boss for giving them such opportunity to be trained at the centre.
On her part, a female delegate, from Cross River State, Miss
Gloria Edward, said the automobile training has opened her eyes to several
business opportunities in life and that she and her other female colleagues in
the training were confident that the Amnesty Coordinator will empower trainees
at the end of the programme to enable them establish their automobile
businesses.
The liaison officer/media consultant of the Presidential
Amnesty Programme, Mr. Piriye Kiyaramo was part of the delegation from the
Amnesty office on the sensitization visit, accompanied by a Human Resource
consultant and an expert in micro, small and medium scale enterprise
development (MSME), Carter Charles Jnr, who took the delegates on a value
orientation session.
